FAQ

  • Can I get Sisterlocks if I have relaxed hair?
Yes. Though the transition will take more time, your hair care professional who is trained in Sisterlocks techniques can help you make that transition. Your styling options will increase as your natural texture grows out. Retrieved from www.sisterlocks.com
  • Can Sisterlocks be taken out?
Technically, yes, though the procedure is so tedious, you will not want to get Sisterlocks with that intention. Retrieved from www.sisterlocks.com
  • What happens if I am running late? My Loc Agent?
Loc Agents attend to up to 4 Clients each in one workday. If you are running late, please notify your Loc Agent as soon as possible to allow them to plan appropriately. Loc Agents must leave your residence by a certain time in order to get to the next Client by their scheduled time. If you are 15 minutes behind schedule, your appointnemt will have to be rescheduled. If your Loc Agent is running late, you will be notified as soon as he or she is made aware of the instance. If a Loc Agent does not arrive within the scheduled window, you will receive a fractional discount for your inconvenience. Due to distances traveled between appointments, appointments will start within a 1hr time window of which your Agent is required to arrive. If he or she does not arrive within that window, a credit is applied to the invoice or Client account (whichever is suitable). Late Agent Arrival credit is 10% of the total invoice. Additionally, if your Agent arrives late and you are not ready to begin, you will still be credited 10% for Late Agent Arrival and your Loc Agent is required to wait until you are ready without assessing any fees to your account. You are also given the opportunity to reschedule if necessary and the 10% credit still applied for the inconvenience. The only exceptions that apply is if traveling conditions are not particularly safe and your Agent has chosen to still honor your appointment (for example, a snow storm, heavy rain, hail, sleet, etc.) or if all three of these cases apply to a single instance: traffic is unusual, unavoidable, and an alternate route is not available for your Agent to take (for example, an accident blocking all lanes of the highway).
  • How do I know that my Loc Agent is an official Sisterlocks consultant?
Each member of our staff has been trained by the Sisterlocks company and is legally qualifed to establish Sisterlocks and Brotherlocks. You may search your Loc Agent's name in the Sisterlocks registry by visiting www.sisterlocks.com.
  • Are Sisterlocks permanent?
Because Sisterlocks allows the hair’s natural interlocking process to unfold, they are true “locks.” This means that they are not meant to be undone. Technically, they can be taken out, but it would be almost absurd to try, especially once the locks are mature! (Imagine getting a small, needle-shaped object and gently undoing each of the 450-plus locks from the tip right down to the roots!) Our rule of thumb: “As long as the potential client is worried about getting them out, we don’t put them in to begin with!” Retrieved from www.sisterlocksblog.com
  • Can I choose the Loc Agent that will do my Sisterlocks establishment?
Absolutely! If you have a preference, we will make necessary arrangements to ensure you sit with your Loc Agent of choice.
  • What is Sisterlocks?
Sisterlocks is a natural hair management system that creates tiny styleable locks. It allows women with tightly textured hair to take advantage of a wide range of today's hairstyles without having to alter the natural texture of their hair or add any products or heat. Retrieved from www.sisterlocks.com
  • Will Sisterlocks cause my hair to break or thin?
Just the opposite! Sisterlocks is a gentle technique that requires no chemicals, no excessive tightening, and causes no damaging abrasion to the hair or scalp. You will find that with regular care, your locks will grow and grow, and your styling options will increase. Retrieved from www.sisterlocks.com
  • What if I decide that I want to transfer to another company or Consultant?
You are under no obligation to have the Loc Agency maintain your locs. We understand that situations and needs change over time. Regardless of your decision, we are all family and wish you peace and pray that you are able to fall in love with your hair all over and over each day. We are always here around the clock to answer any questions or concerns you may have throughout your journey.
  • Is lint a concern?
Yes, lint and product build-up is a concern for all types of locs. Chances of accumulating lint and product buildup can be decreased or eliminated depending on your hair care routine. Practices such as wearing a satin sleep cap at night, using water-based products as opposed to oil-based products, and washing regularly will help.
  • Can I color my locs now?
Loc Agency does not recommend the use of hair color at any stage of your locking process
  • Can I use oil?
Loc Agency, LLC does not recommend the use of oil or oil-based products at any stage of the locking process. When given the chance, the scalp will produce its own oils as necessary. If you must use product for moisture, consider researching product with a water-base that will provide the same benefits. If you have Sisterlocks, you should especially consider using Sisterlocks products as they have been specially formulated to foster the locking process.
  • What are the white balls intertwined within my locs?
The white balls you’re referring to are sometimes follicles that have released from the root. More often, we find these white balls are sunburned ends of the hair that have turned white due to exposure to the elements. Your Consultant can take care of this during a grooming appointment but don’t be surprised if it happens again. You probably see these most when you’re looking in the mirror under fluorescent lighting but they’re not usually visible to others and do not detract from the beauty of your locks. Don’t get into the habit of over grooming trying to eliminate this unique feature. Retrieved from www.sisterlocksblog.com
  • Do small locs reduce the likelyhood of breakage as opposed to traditional locs?
Small locs themselves don't reduce or increase the likelihood of breakage. Loc size, parting shape, hair type, texture, cuticle, diet, lifestyle, etc all factors into the equation. Sisterlocks is not one size. Sisterlocks is a blend of sizes. Ideally, every Sisterlocks Client has all three of the Sisterlocks sizes in the hair: small, medium, and large. Unless one of the sizes are found to be incompatible for whatever reason during/after the consultation. Sample locs should be installed in each of the Sisterlocks sizes to test for the size compatibility as well as for many additional reasons.
  • Can I use grease or oil on my Sisterlocks?
By greasing the scalp you’re clogging the pores and the natural oils can’t perform their function of nourishing the scalp and the hair. If your scalp is dry be certain you’re rinsing thoroughly after you shampoo and check your diet. It is best to drink adequate amounts of water as this will help with your hair, skin and scalp. Also, eliminate fried, greasy foods from your diet as this can also clog your pores and have a drying effect on your scalp. If this doesn’t help you may need to see a doctor to be certain there isn’t a medical condition present that would require a medicated shampoo or treatment. Retrieved from www.sisterlocksblog.com
  • Why is my deposit non-refundable?
Your deposit reserves a set of days (appointment block) under your name for establishment. If for any reason, you are not able to commit to your requested appointment block, you forfeit your deposit. The deposit helps to cover a portion of the expenses and is used as compensation to account for a percentage of revenue loss from the potential sales for those days. Depending on your location, hotel accommodations are also subsequently booked for our Loc Agents. You must submit a separate deposit to reserve another appointment block.
  • Why do I have to pay a late appointment cancellation / reschedule fee?
Appointment changes set into motion a series of events. We have to make every effort to fill your existing appointment block with another Client. If we cannot find a filler, we lose the potential income. We will need to find a place in the schedule to fit you back in (this can be difficult as our appointments are set a year in advance). Your yearly appointment schedule will need to be reworked to account for the change and ensure that your maintenance intervals remain appropriate.
  • Why do I have to pay 24 hours before my appointment?
Our Loc Agents travel up to 4 hours round trip to get to a Client's location. There have been instances in which we have traveled great distances only to learn that the Client is a no-show or intended but forgot to cancel his or her appointment. In other instances, Clients have received services only to later reveal that they are unable to pay. Payment in advance serves as a final appointment confirmation and protection for our Agents' lost time and expenses.
  • What are my payment options?
There are many ways to pay. Here are your options: Pay directly from your invoice using your debit card, credit card, or bank draft. Send payment via PayPal at sales@thelocagency.com Pay in cash directly to your Loc Agent. If cash is your preferred method of payment, please inform us by 6:00 pm the day prior to your appointment to avoid automatic appointment cancellation.
  • Why do I need to pay a deposit for my Sisterlocks establishment?
Deposits are accepted once your requested appointment block has been confirmed. The deposit will hold your place in the appointment book and prevent others from being scheduled during the same block. Without the deposit, you run the risk of losing your appointment slot. Appointments can take up to a year to secure. You may choose not to pay the deposit. However, if you choose not to pay the deposit, your slot will be moved if another paying Client requests the same period. You would have to request a different set of dates if this happens.
  • How much is my Sisterlocks establishment if it is done by a Sisterlocks Trainee with the Loc Agency?
You would need a Consultation first to determine the actual price. Generally, the establishment may be up to $300 less than with a Certified Consultant.
  • How are inches of hair counted with respect to pricing?
Inches are counted by measuring from the root to the tip or end of the hair. It doesn't matter if it is wet or blow dried when the measurement is taken. The hair is pulled or stretched to ensure that its actual length is recorded. The hair should not be blow dried for the consultation to allow the Consultant to get an accurate depiction of the hair texture and type when it is in its natural state.
  • After my consultation, how should I wear my hair to conceal my sample locs?
You may wear your hair in any style as you'd wish once your sample locs are placed in. They are so small that they will not be noticed regardless of how you choose to style your hair.
  • Why sample locs? Are they really necessary?
Sample locs answer many questions for your Consultant: What Sisterlocks locking pattern works best for your hair type and texture. Which Sisterlocks locking patterns are not suitable or compatible with your hair type and texture. If a pattern is not compatible with your hair type/ texture, it can wash out when you wash your hair. If locs are installed without first determining this, the Client can was his or her locs out the first time they go to wash their hair. This has been reported as happening by Consultants who chose to skip the step of putting in the sample locs. Which Sisterlocks locking patterns should be used and where they should be used at in your head (Many Clients have multiple hair types and textures on their head, therefore a pattern that may be suitable for the front of the head, may not be suitable for the back of the head). What sizes are not compatible with your hair type/texture. For example, some Clients cannot have the small size. Identified from observing the sample locs, the small size snapped off. We would not have known that small was not suitable for her hair type if we skipped the step of putting the sample locs in. Small size is typically established in the front (ear to ear) and around the perimeter to give the appearance of an entire head of small locs. If that step was skipped, the Client would have more than likely lost a significant amount of her hair due to breakage because we would've placed small locs in those areas. Sample locs give the Client a general idea of that they can expect going forward. Some may decide that it is not for them, after all. Sample locs are extremely important.
  • How long should I keep my sample locs in?
There is no max length, however if you keep them in too long (a number of months), they will begin to lock. The minimum is two weeks to ensure the Client has had enough time to wash the hair at least twice. If the samples are in for more than a month for any reason, they will need to re-tightened to avoid breakage. The Consultant will need to analyze the behavior of the sample locs before they are removed. If you do not plan to move forward with your establishment, you may go ahead and remove them without having a Consultant first analyze them.
  • Should I wash my hair while I have my sample locs?
Your hair must be washed a minimum of two times (from the time the samples are established to the time you sit for your full establishment) to give an accurate depiction of how the hair will behave during wash sessions as well as in conjunction with your everyday lifestyle once the entire head has been installed with Sisterlocks. Sample locs assist the Consultant in determining the right pattern. If all of your sample locs (remember they are placed in each size and pattern) wash out when you wash your hair, you would not be considered a candidate for Sisterlocks. If all of your sample locs wash out when you wash your hair and you proceed with the installation anyway, when you wash again, the same thing will happen- all of your locs will wash out and you've lost a huge investment. If the Clients hair is compatible, the sample locs will not all wash out. The locs established with the most compatible size and pattern will remain in the hair after washing and the Consultant will choose that same size(s)/ pattern(s) for the establishment.
  • What precautions should I take before swimming and showering?
There is no specific time frame in which you will not have to wear a swim cap while swimming. Everyone's hair is different and the time it takes for locs to mature, vary. It could take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. It could take even longer if the Client has not been taking care of the hair properly. While showering (if locs have not yet matured), you should wear a shower cap especially if you are likely to completely submerge your head in the water- or you would need to braid and band your locs first just as you would before washing them.
